Good to Know

Evacuation chairs are not specifically required by law, but under the Equality Act 2010 businesses must make reasonable adjustments so that disabled people can be evacuated safely. An evacuation chair can help towards meeting this.
As a Class I medical device, the chair falls under the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER). It should be checked, serviced and maintained regularly to keep it in safe working order, and records of the checks should be kept.
