VAT relief

This product is designed for disabled people, so it can be bought without VAT when it is for the personal or domestic use of someone who is chronically sick or disabled, or when an eligible charity buys it for a disabled person's use.

Who can claim

  • A person with a physical or mental impairment that has a long-term effect on their ability to carry out everyday activities.
  • A person with a condition doctors treat as a chronic illness (for example diabetes), or who is terminally ill.
  • A family member, carer or friend buying it on their behalf.
  • A charity buying it to make it available to disabled people.

Who can't claim

  • Someone with a temporary injury, such as a broken bone.
  • An older person who is frail but not disabled or chronically sick.
  • A VAT-registered business, or anyone buying for general or shared use (unless it is an eligible charity).

How to claim

  1. Choose Claim VAT relief (here or in your basket).
  2. Enter the name of the person or charity, and the condition or the charity's registration number.
  3. Tick the declaration. The 20% VAT is then taken off every qualifying item in your basket before checkout.

Your declaration is kept with your order, as HMRC requires. Making a false declaration is an offence. If you're unsure whether you qualify, see HMRC Notice 701/7 or ask your doctor — we can't give medical advice.
